Case Study: Making IBCs Beautiful in Cosmetics Manufacturing

Feb 25, 2026, 15:42 PM by Catherine Lees

SITUATION

A cosmetics manufacturer contacted SNP for a solution to clean its International Bulk Containers (IBCs) in-house.

The IBCs contained ingredients, many of them viscous, used in the manufacture of cosmetic products. The company was cleaning the IBCs manually but reported that it was unable to reach the top corners of the containers.  Manual cleaning was also taking too long and consumed a lot of water. They were looking to reduce time, costs and overall cleanliness.

SOLUTION

SNP recommended its IBC Cleaning Kit, a versatile IBC cleaning solution designed to meet the high standards required in various industries, including cosmetics manufacture, food processing, brewing and chemical processing. It combines high-performance cleaning efficiency with an extended operating life and reduced lifecycle costs.

The IBC Cleaning Kit automates and standardises the cleaning process, tackling hard-to-reach areas at the top and corners of the tanks which are common sites for residue and bacterial growth. Its 360° nozzles provide thorough cleaning without causing wear on IBC walls, protecting both product quality and container integrity.

THE PRODUCT

The IBC Cleaning Kit includes the Orbitor Eco rotary jet nozzle head plus down pipe and lid, a horizontal pump with control panel and a feed kit and outlet hose.

About the Orbitor Eco

The IBC Cleaning Kit uses the Orbitor ECO rotary jet cleaning head which excels at high-precision cleaning to remove even the toughest residues, e.g. cosmetics, adhesives, pet food, cat food, fish oil, mayonnaise, etc. from IBC walls, using different cleaning fluids such as solvents, caustic or hot water up to 93°C.

The powerful jets are also able to dislodge even tough residues from the top corners of the IBC.

Benefits of SNP's IBC Cleaning Kit

  • Automated 360° internal cleaning of IBCs

  • Removes even stubborn residues efficiently

  • Reduces the risk of product contamination from imperfect cleaning

  • Minimises wear on IBCs, helping prevent damage or leaks

  • Reduces water consumption compared to manual cleaning

  • Provides a consistent, repeatable cleaning process

  • Supports safer working conditions by reducing the need for staff to enter tanks

Results

The manufacturer was delighted with the standard of cleaning the IBC Cleaning Kit provided. It reported that it was saving considerable man hours, freeing up its staff for other activities, and that it expected to see a return on investment within 6 months to a year.
