Engineering consideration 1 - Volume of spray

Deluge systems are essentially all about delivering a very large volume of fluid to the target area in a rapid and sustained manner.  As such, high throughput nozzles are generally required.  Precise, even spray patterns or finely atomised sprays are not a priority.  Spiral design nozzles make an excellent choice as they can potentially deliver many thousands of litres per minute.  The fact that the spray pattern they produce is uneven is not relevant in deluge applications.
